Palm Oil Yield – 2014

On one of our Palm Oil plot we recorded the yield for the year 2014.

On our 5 acre plot total yield was around 55 tones which translate to 11 tons / acre. This is 2 tones per acre less than 2013 yield.

Palm oil has to be harvested throughout the year every fortnight, but 75% of yield is between May and Sep.

Price paid to farmers was decided by OILFED based on a predefined formula. OILFED declares the price per ton every month. Price paid to farmers was in the range between 6300 – 7500 in 2014.

  1. Nice article Hari garu.. What is the age of your palm oil? What could i expect from 3 years old trees, i mean yielding per acre? Any special measures are you taking to achieve this yielding? i planted 38 acres in 2013 june.. guidance would be appreciated. Thank you

    1. Hi,
Ours is 10yr old plantation. Where is your farm located?
It is better you do ablation (remove bunches) till end of 3rd year, it helps tress grow better. From 4th year yields will be ranging from 3-5 tons per acre and will increase to 10-11 tones till 7th year. All of this varies on many factors like soil, water, our cultivation practices and many more.
My observation is that Palm oil gives good yields when farm yard manure is applied regularly. And try to apply the total chemical fertilizers in as many as possible doses i.e. every 2 months or every month. Also practice mulching to retain moisture and prevent water loss.
If you are interested try experimenting with Jeevarutham(ZBNF) on a small area.

    2. Thank you.. Mine is in vijayanagarm district. we have 9 bore which delivers 1 1/2 inch water.. Water potential is not that great.. I know it is not sufficient when plant needs more water after 3 years.. planning to dig 3 more.. if successful great, otherwise might go for solar.. Not sure it would be potential or not. Soil is red..I have another question about cow.. Wants to buy cow which needs less maintenance . Not expecting returns from milk, that could be useful for servants and their children.. wants to use dung etc., because in last 2 years i spent almost 1lakh for manure...so how many i needed ? what is the best price and also where can i buy?

      Thank u

    3. Having cows is always good... but its bit complicated question to answer.. it depends mostly on Labor costs, available places of open grazing, your availability on the farm etc and many others factors.Unlike plants animals need attention 24X7. All the local desi breeds are good and low cost animals.

  2. I would recommend any pure desi breeds from that area or you can get in touch with any goushala near by and adopt few pure desi cows as you whole purpose is to get manure.
